Welcome to the Week 2 Recap of my May Series on Implementation!
In case you missed it, I’ve dedicated the month of May to a powerful topic: Implementation, because strategy means nothing if we can't put it into motion.
I just wrapped up Week 2, where the focus was on getting your project off the ground—and keeping it going.
Here’s a summary of what was shared:
Follow Up and Follow Through
Everyone on your team should know exactly what they are responsible for and when it’s due. But here’s the thing: knowing isn’t enough.
As a leader, it’s your job to check in. Don’t wait for a report to land on your desk.
👉Ask open-ended check-in questions
👉 Offer support, guidance and coaching where needed.
👉 Stay curious, not accusatory
👉Don’t assume progress is being made just because no one said otherwise.
💡 Unconventional Tip (.......this one depends on the situation and culture):
Use voice notes as well as emails for weekly check-ins.
Why? Your tone, energy, and encouragement carry more weight in your voice than in typed words—and it feels personal, not procedural.
Delegate with Clarity and Confidence
These are two things you must communicate to your team members for a successful project:
1️⃣ Clarity on the objective
2️⃣ Confidence in their ability to deliver
Delegate with clarity.
When assigning a task, don’t just hand it off and move on. Take a moment to ask:
🔹 “Is it clear?” or Would you like me to explain it again?
🔹 “Do you understand what’s needed of you?”
Express confidence in your team members:
👉 “I trust you to handle this.”
👉 “I know you’re more than capable.”
💡 Practical Tip:
Add a “Why This Matters” segment to your task briefs.
Let your team know the broader impact of what they’re doing. This builds emotional investment and ownership.
Every time I have used this it has worked, try it!
What do you do when a team member isn’t following through, after you've been clear and supportive?
Sometimes, despite being clear and supportive, team members drop the ball.
That’s when I initiate what I call a crucial conversation.
It’s a serious conversation but one which maintains a tone of empathy and fairness.
I simply ask:
👉 “Help me understand what’s going on that’s preventing you from meeting the objectives.”
Then, I ask them directly:
👉 “What would you suggest I do in this situation?”
It’s not about confrontation but about clarity, accountability, and giving them the chance to course-correct.
💡 Practical Tip:
Schedule “Recovery Fridays.”
It’s a dedicated 30-minute slot each week to talk openly (without blame) about where things fell short, and what we’ll do differently moving forward. It normalizes recovery and drives momentum.
Special Feature:
This week, I featured advice on Implementation by Mr. Wendell Mitchell, Managing Director / Lead IT Consultant , AWSOM CONSULTING Limited.
Wendell’s mantra—“Set the vision, then get out of the way”—is powerful! His approach to leadership is rooted in identifying passion, enabling ownership, and creating space for transformation to unfold.

That wraps up the Week 2 Recap of our May Implementation Series! 💡
I hope this week’s reflections, tips and perspectives give you the fire and focus you need to keep executing at a high level!
Remember: Great ideas don’t fail—poor implementation does.
Let’s change that, one project at a time.
